Letter to Parents Sept 18

12th September 2018

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Buíochas & Comhghairdeas

We have enjoyed a grand start to the year and have settled back into school life nicely. Yesterday our Junior Cert class of 2018 received excellent results, as good as we have ever seen in Glenamaddy. In addition, this class has developed a whole new set of skills using their iPads over the past three years. Congratulations to all the students, their families and teachers on these achievements. Tús maith, leath na hoibre.

We urge all students to be the best they can be. Our shared aim is to do the very best we can in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities throughout the school. There is so much talent in our community.

This summer, several of our students won All-Ireland Medals playing with Galway Football teams. Special mention to Lynsey and Hannah Noone, who captained Galway Ladies to Minor and U16 All- Ireland titles with their schoolmates, Leah Pettit, Eva Noone and Niamh Collins. Conor Raftery really lead the Galway Minor Boys to the All-Ireland Final in Croke Park. There is no end to what can be achieved when talent and hard work combine. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí.

Safeguarding Children

The Board of Management recognises that child protection and welfare considerations permeate all aspects of school life. The school’s Child Safeguarding Statement is available on the school website. The School Principal is the Designated Liaison Person with regards to issues concerning child protection and Ms. Gildea is the Deputy Designated Liaison Person.

School Mass and Personal & Social Awareness Week

The community is invited to our Beginning of Year Mass on Thursday 4th October at 12.15pm in St. Patrick’s Church. Our annual Personal & Social Awareness Week takes place from 1st - 5th October. Topics to be addressed include anti-bullying, personal & road safety, self-esteem, substance misuse, social media and positive mental health. To defray costs, we ask for €2 per student. If you have any query, please contact Ms. O’Flanagan.

Dates for your Diary

Please find attached a calendar of holidays and parent teacher meetings for the coming year. As always, we ask parents to let us know if for any reason their child is going to be absent or has been absent from school. The school is not running a bus to the Ploughing Championships this year.

Homework Club and Evening Study

Evening Study takes place on Monday to Thursday from 4-6pm and on Friday 1.45-3.45pm. Junior students are welcome to join Homework Club, Monday to Thursday 4-5pm. Supervised Saturday and Holiday Study is also available subject to demand. Details are available from Ms. Hardiman.

School Musical - The Addams Family

Best wishes to the cast and crew of The Addams Family who have begun rehearsing for this year’s show which is to be staged during the week of 21st October 2018. It promises to be good, scary fun.

Family Contribution

The Board of Management thanks all the families who have made a family contribution. It asks all families to contribute to the cost of integral student services.

  • One student                              €60 family contribution + €8 insurance
  • Two students                            €90 family contribution + €16 insurance
  • Three or more students             €120 family contribution + €8 insurance per child

Families may pay their contribution in instalments if they wish. Your contributions will be gratefully appreciated, as they will directly benefit your children and their school.

School Uniform

Our students wear their school uniform well. Thank you to all those students who wear full uniform and to their parents for kitting them out. We remind students that black leather shoes are the agreed uniform footwear, not runners or pumps.
