Below are some of the Frequently Asked Questions in relation to students enroling at GCS.

Q. How do I get a bus ticket?

A. All applications must be made online to Bus Eireann at  https://www.buseireann.ie/inner.php?id=522

The closing date each year for a bus ticket application is the last Friday in April (Friday April 30th, 2021)

You will need to set up a Family Portal in advance on this site if you do not already have one.

Q. Can the school organise bus tickets?

A. No, the school has no authority to issue bus tickets or accept an application for one.

Q. What subjects do I study?

A. All our Junior Cycle students study:

English, Irish*, Maths, History, Geography, Science, PE, Religion, CSPE and SPHE and Digital Literacy.

You also will study three Option/Choice Subjects.

You can get details about subjects on the following links:

*Some students have an exemption from studying Irish.

Q. How do I know if the combination of my three choice subjects is available?

A. Towards the end of this school year, parent/guardian will receive an email asking them to confirm your three choices.

If it should happen that your combination does not work, we will contact parent/guardian before this to discuss best options.

Q. Can I change my mind about Option Subjects after submitting the form?

A. If you want to change a subject after having submitted the form, please have a parent/guardian email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Do this as soon as possible please.

Include:

The student’s name.

The two subjects you want to keep.

The swap you would like to make.

Q. Can I change my mind after receiving confirmation email?

A. You can request to change subjects at any point. We will always work towards the best outcome for our students. Please note that requests may not always work, but we do our best to allow the change if it makes educational sense and if resources allow it.

Q. What if the class I want to move to is already at full capacity?

A. You can request to go on a waiting list and consider the move again should a place become available. We will always consult with a parent before any move takes place.

Q. Can I go to a new subject after the school year has started?

A. We will always consider a request to change subjects, and work towards the best outcome. We take many things into account and will always talk to parent/guardian about a request to change subject.

Q. What is the best way to find out about a subject?

A. There are several good websites which will inform you and your parent/guardian:

https://ncca.ie/en

Talking to older siblings and their friends is sometimes useful.
