I hope you and your family are keeping safe and well and are enjoying the summer. We are looking forward to school reopening and are preparing to welcome all our new and returning students. Book Rental Scheme & iPads
We continue to operate the book rental at an annual fee of €130 for Junior Cycle students & €150 for Senior Cycle students. Payments may be made online via text sent to your mobile on 5th August. Books cannot be issued without payment. Separately, workbooks and materials for practical subjects may be purchased from the relevant teacher. All students require a school diary and a locker available for €10.

On occasion we may communicate with you by phone, text, post, email, via the school website and our school report system, VSWare. All parents were sent a text on 5th August 2022.
If you did not receive this text, please let us know and/or notify us about any change of phone number/address/email/medical conditions etc.
Uniform & PE Uniform Shop
Students may wear PE gear only on days they are timetabled for Physical Education class.
First and Second Year students should wear a tracksuit bottoms and top available from the online PE Uniform Shop which is accessible via the school website, www.glenamaddycs.ie or through https://www.teamwear.ie/your-shop/glenamaddy-community-school.html.
All other students may order the tracksuit bottoms and t-shirts from this website or wear a plain black or navy tracksuit bottoms and a plain t-shirt.
Students may wear runners on the day they have PE. Full school uniform including black shoes is to be worn on the other school days. Our students wear the school uniform well, please continue to support this.
School Policies & Code of Good Behaviour
Each year the Board of Management approves the policies which govern the school. The policies which include the Code of Good Behaviour, Anti Bullying Policy, Homework Policy, Admissions Policy etc. are available on our website www.glenamaddycs.ie. We ask parents to read the Code of Good Behaviour with their children.
For our code to work, the support & cooperation of parents, staff & students is vital. Students are reminded of the rules regarding the proper use of mobile phones, wearing full uniform and that smoking and vaping is prohibited in school.
It is a condition of entry to Glenamaddy Community School that all parties sign the Acceptance of the Code of Good Behaviour printed in the School Journal.
School Attendance – Absence, Lateness & Sign Out Notes
Students are expected to attend school every day if they are well. If there is an unscheduled school closure, we will text you. Please call if you ever have any doubt. The Absence, Lateness and Sign Out slips in the School Journal are to be presented to the Yearhead and may be required by the National Education Welfare Board. When signing out during the school day, students must have a note from their parents/guardian and signed permission from their Yearhead. Phone calls between students & parents during the school day should be through the office & not by mobile phone.
Computers & Business Studies Course (QQI Level 5):
Are you ready for a new challenge in life? If so, you might like to join our QQI Level 5 Business and Secretarial course. Experience a wide variety of subjects including Accounting, Payroll, Communications, Work Experience, Business Administration, Typing, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Web Design, Office 365, ICDL and iPad essentials. Our tuition times/days are flexible & we cater for all levels of learning and abilities. This is a suitable programme for mature learners, who wish to enter the work force, as well as recent school leavers wishing to secure a college placement. Family Contribution
The Board of Management asks all families to contribute the following to the cost of integral student services. Your voluntary contribution is greatly appreciated and goes directly to benefit your children and their school. Families may also avail of the School Insurance Scheme.
- One student €60 family contribution + €10 insurance
- Two students €90 family contribution + €20 insurance
- Three or more students €120 family contribution + €10 insurance per child.

Dear Sixth Class Pupils, Parents and Guardians,
I hope you and your families are well. You are no doubt busy staying safe, going to school online, and looking forward to returning to ‘normal’ life as soon as possible.
At this time of year, we traditionally invite Sixth Class pupils and their families to our Open Night at Glenamaddy Community School to show you our school, see what we offer and enrol with us for next September.

We are really looking forward to seeing you in person here in Glenamaddy Community School. You have no doubt been busy over the past year, minding yourself and your family and working away in school or at home.

Invitation to Visit the School - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 28th, 29th 30th June
We would like to invite you and your parent(s)/guardian(s) to visit your new school, take a guided tour and ask any question you may have on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, 28th, 29th or 30th June at one of the following tour times 11am, 12 noon or 2pm. You can choose whatever day suits you best.
Our Leaving Cert. students will have finished their exams by then and you will have your holidays. We will ask everyone to follow the Covid safety procedures, so please wear a mask, sign-in atreceptionand sanitise.
First Day at Secondary School
All going well we hope to welcome you here on Monday 30th August. We realise moving to secondary school can be both exciting and daunting, but from experience we know things will all work out. We will help you with your classes, subjects, lockers, iPads, books, etc.
We will be in contact with your National School and on request receive your Educational Passport. Consequently, we will not hold a formal "entry test". During the year, you will have assessments to help you and us get an insight into your strengths and maybe areas that need attention. This will help you to best reach your potential. If ever you need help with anything in school, please let us know.
School Uniform
Our students wear our uniform very well. The school uniform may be ordered from Dympna McDermott, Church Street, Glenamaddy on 094 9659087 or 087 7743286. Students may wear any brand of black leather shoe. Runners are not allowed. It has been suggested we introduce a PE uniform, but for the time-being students may wear a tracksuit and runners on PE day.
Choose iPad or Book Rental by 2nd July
Our students may choose to use an iPad or avail of our book rental scheme. Please email the school office at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 094 9659315 before Friday, 2nd July to let us know which option you are taking.
If you choose to use an iPad, the ebooks for your chosen subjects are loaded on the device and you also get the hard copy of the books. iPads with ebooks are available from CompuB, Liosban Business Park, Galway at (091) 755222 or email:This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. iPads must be ordered from CompuB by Thursday, 5th August as indicated on the flyer attached and can be picked up here in Glenamaddy Community School in late August. iPad information is available on www.glenamaddycs.ie. Alternatively, you may choose to rent the books from the school, for the annual book rental fee of €130 which will be payable online through the school office in August. On receipt of payment, books may be collected here in school on the 23rd, 24th, 25th August 10am -2pm or on the day you start school.
Separately all students use a School Diary, SPHE workbook and a locker key which cost €10.

Dear Students and Parents,
I hope your family are keeping safe and well.
Stay Safe and Well.
Guided by advice of the Department of Education and Skills, we are preparing to reopen school and are putting in place measures and practices to keep us all as safe as possible. Please keep yourself informed of the latest DES advice via www.gov.ie.
In order to keep our community safe, it is a vital that everybody here follows our Health and Safety Directions and adheres to our Code of Good Behaviour. Parents will be contacted if their son or daughter breaches our safety regulations.
Students are welcome to attend school if they are healthy and well. It is important students do not attend school if they are feeling unwell. Parents are asked to make an appointment through the office or email their child’s Yearhead if they wish to discuss a school matter. Please ensure we have your contact numbers in the case of an emergency.
Health and Safety
On return each Year group will be receive Health and Safety Induction Training to include the flowing:
- Wear a Mask - All students and staff are to wear a face mask in school, preferably a washable cloth one, where social distancing is not possible. We will provide everyone with a visor which may be worn in certain instances as directed by their teacher.
- Wash your Hands & Sanitise - Students are to follow good hygiene etiquette, wash and/or sanitise their hands regularly. Each student will receive their own bottle of hand sanitiser to start with which may be refilled at home or here for 50c.
- Bring Your Lunch - Students are advised to bring their own healthy lunch and reusable water bottle. Lunchtimes will be staggered. The Canteen will be open to students and it is hoped a cashless payment system can be introduced.
- Lockers – Lockers will be spaced and students who wish to avail of one may do so at a key cost of €5.
- Routines – In order for the school to run safely we are introducing the following interim routines
- We will operate one-hour classes. School starts at 9am, finishes at 3.50pm and 1.15pm on Fridays.
- We will operate a one-way system wherever practical and a controlled system for entering toilet areas.
- Students may enter/exit through any entrance/door abiding by the one-way system.
