Monday 26th of May saw the Graduation Mass for our Leaving Cert class of 2013/14. The cermony was held in our Sports Hall with parents, family, friends, staff, students and of course the class themselves in attendance. Fr. Mooney celebrated the last mass for these students in our school as they face into their Leaving Cert exams and then part on their seperate ways in life.
The evening started with the entrance of the class in pairs to music by our ensemble. All students wore the graduation gowns which set them apart from the other people attending and adds to the sense of achievement. Mr. Duignan welcomed all in his opening speech and wished the class well in their future endeavours urging them, as always, to look after each other. During the cermony, Cian Boyle spoke on behalf of her classmates about their time in GCS, highlighting the up and downs, trips and events, the craic and the laughter. Finally Mr Heavey, as yearhead, gave a speech. In it he gave the memories he had of the group through their five years in the school. He also spoke of the sad times, espeically the loss of Pia McDermott and Jason Nee. His parting words the class was to never give up and always 'try your best' knowing that sometimes you will fail but that this is what you learn the lessons from.
The end of the mass was followed by the presentation of a bookmark to each student by Mr. Duignan to mark their time at our school. Finally a group photo of the class before they went their seperate ways.
Many thanks to all involved in making the night such a success; staff, students, parents and Fr. Mooney in particular for celebrating the mass.
