2015/16

Well done to our Junior Boys who won the Junior C Championship by beating Castlerea in the final on Friday 8th of April.

It was a hard fought match on a wet and winday day in COE, Ballyhaunis. After letting in a couple of easy goals in the first half the boys led by a single point, 1-5 to 2-1. Things improved in the second half as Glenamaddy started to take control. However, an injury to a Castlerea player meant the match was held up for nearly an hour. With a few minutes left after this restart, there were a few nail biting moments but Glenamaddy held out to win the silerware. A delighted captain, Gerard Comer accepted the cup on behalf of the team.

Garbally, Ballinasloe  2-5     Glenamaddy CS   1-13

Our Junior team had a good win over Garbally College in their first game on Tuesday18th. The lads had recieved a walkover in the first round over Gort so this was a good test away from home on a windy, wet day in Ballinasloe. We played against the wind in the first half and went in 3 points down (1-5 to 1-2) at halftime. Garbally scored their second goal straight from the restart but that proved to be thier final score as Glenamaddy pushed on and kept adding to their points tally. Good performances on the day came from MacDara Geraghty, Mark Dolan, Michael Heneghan and Nathan Feeney Dolan.

Glenamaddy CS Mohill

Semi Final

Glenamaddy CS Ballinrobe CS

It turned out to be another disapointing year for this group of players eventually loosing out to Ballinrobe in the semi final. Having performed well in the start of the league section, they came unstuck in the last league game against neighbours and eventual winners, Castlerea. This was a frustrating lost as the team had been on top for most of the game but failed to finish the game out and gave away some soft scores to allow Castlerea away with the win.

Thankfully this didn't stop the team going through to the knock out stages. They played Mohill in the quarter final in Ballaghaderreen. This proved to be a good performance after the set back of the previous game. The team put up a good score and had some very good individual performances.

Ballinrobe CS were their next opponents in the semi final which was played in Tuam Stadium. This was a closely contested match. Glenamaddy started very slowly and were 6 points down early on but once they got the first point on the board, they rallied and got back to within a point at half time. This continued in the second half and they were 3 points up with only a minute left. However, the dreaded goal came and sent the tie into extra time. It was a sickening blow to our lads who had fought very hard to get back into the game.

Extra time proved a step too far as they conceded another goal that they couldn't recover from. This was the second year that this team has lost at semi final stage. Hopefully, it will galvanise they for the future and not allow it to happen again.

2011/12

The schools Junior team only entered in the Galway County competition in the year 2011/2012. This resulted in a successful year for the team with them winning out the competition at the expense of neighbours Dunmore CS in the final.

Glenamaddy CS  4-11      Dunmore CS  4-2

This was an entertaining game played in Tuam Stadium. Although the match was played at the end of a long school year, it didn't show too much with the two teams registering high scores and plenty of action to be seen at both goal mouths. It was Glenamaddy that led at half time on a scoreline of 2-8 to 2-1. Glenamaddy were after played against a stiff breeze in this half so came out confident that could turn over their neighbours in the second half. This proved to be the case in the finish but not without a strong fight from the Dunmore side.

Team and scorers:

D. Ward, A. O'Donnell, J. Burke, PT. Keavney, M. Geary, R. Connolly (0-1), E. Morgan, C. Raftery (0-2), G. Connaughton (1-1), D. Halvey, C. Glynn (0-1), L. Mulhearn, M. Fox (0-3), J. Noone (0-1), C. Hynes (3-2). Subs: D. Swift, T. Lennon, L. Glynn, C. Tully, E. Geraghty, S. Fox, D. Collins.

This years second year team got through to the Connacht semi-final in the League/championship. The following are their results in the League section.

Boyle    3-7  Glenamaddy CS   11-11

Glenamaddy CS  2-10  Manorhamilton   1-4

Castlerea CS   2-12  Glenamaddy CS   3-8

Glenamaddy CS    2-9    Strokestown   1-8

Connacht Semi Final

Glenamaddy C.S. 3-13    Ballinrobe  0-6

The team had an impressive win on Tuesday 27th in Milltown over their Ballinrobe opponents on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-6. The match was played in glorious conditions and our lads excelled in them. By half time the team was leading with a score of 2-8 to 0-4. Ballinrobe were unable to narrow that margin in the second half as we started to pull further away. On the day there were good performances from Colum Fallon at centreback, Michael Geary at centre forward scoring 2-4 and Thomas McDermott at full forward scoring 4 points. Well done to all involved.

Connacht Final

Glenamaddy C.S.   3-12   Castlerea C.S.    0-3

The team has impressive win in the Connacht C Championship final played in the Connacht Centre of Excellence in Ballyhaunis. Conditions for the game were far from the warm, sunny days associated with a championship final but it didnt dampen the quality shown by the Glenamaddy team. With heavy rain showers throughout and playing against a strong breeze in the first half the team raced to a  2-3 to 0-3 lead at half time. With goals from Mark Kilcommins and Keith Finnegan during the half, it left Castlerea with a mountain to climb facing into the wind in the second half. It proved far to steep for the Castlerea lads as Glenamaddy didn't sit back on their lead but instead pushed forward to score a further goal (Ryan McHugh) and 10 points in the second half while preventing their opponents from scoring. This was a complete team performance as they dominated in every position. Its is added to by the fact they had been defeated against the same opposition by a point earlier in the competition. Afterward, the winning shield was presented to team captain Colum Fallon by the match referee on behalf of Connacht GAA. Well done to all involved including team management of M. Curtin and L. Frain.

Glenamaddy CS 5-15 Ballyhaunis CS 1-8

GCS got off to a poor start in this final conceeding 1-1 in a few minutes after getting turned over twice. It took our lads a while to get to the pace of the game and we got our first score in the 5th minute which settled the team. Goals in the 8th and 12th minute by C. Kennedy and M. Giblin put us 2-2 to 1-3 up. We added 4 more points to BCS 2 to leave the score 2-6 to 1-5 at half time. In the second half we won the majority of our kickouts and theirs which gave the platform for success. T. Kilmartins goal in the 38th minute finished the game as a contest. It was a great team performance with every player contributing to different parts of the game.

Galway Juvenille Competition

Our Juvenille boys captured the Galway competition in convincing fashion on Wednesday 22nd against neighbours Dunmore CS. The team had already beaten Colaiste na Corrib in the semi final and they wasted little time in this game, pressuring Dunmore from the start.

The game was played in blustery conditions in Loughgeorge but the lads stuck to their tasks well and after playing against the breeze in the first half they held the lead, 4-9 to 1-3. Their domination continued in the second half adding on another goal and eleven points and only conceding a point.

This was a great team performance with everyone playing their part but Michael Geary, Thomas Lennon, Colum Fallan and Oisin McGann in particular stood out with brillant individual performances. Captain, Thomas Lennon accepted the cup after the match much to the delight of his teammates.

D Connacht Final: Glenamaddy CS 4-6      Our Lady's College, Belmullet  1-5

Well done to our first year boys who have won the Connacht D Championship this year. The team has worked hard all year and got their reward in the final. Having played against a breeze in the first half they went in at half time 2-1 to 1-3 ahead. They continued this form in the second half and pushed on to win the match comfortably. Congratulations to all involved including their management of Mr. Conroy and Mr. Curtin.

2014/15

Well done to our 1st year boys team who reached the Connacht Championship final by beating a strong Garbally team on a final scoreline of 3-12 to 0-7.

This was a great team performance from the boys in a match that they recieved two harsh black cards for key players as well as loosing inspirational goalkeeper Patrick Fitzmaurice just before half time due to a knee injury. The teams had gone in at half time 5 points each after GCS has played against a strong breeze. Indeed, we could have gone in with a few goals to add to the 5 points but for 3 near misses in the space of 5 minutes before the whistle.

The team came out in the second half galvanised to remain solid at the back and add scores to the scoreboard. Powered on by Conor Raftery, Luke Divilly, Brian McDermott and Ryan Duffy they gradually started to take control. Goals from Conor and Brain made it very hard for Garbally to see a way back into the match. The defence was solid being commanded by Ordhan Geraghty and with Daniel Coyne dropped back to block it up even more it made it very hard to break us down. A couragous and intelligent display of football from Joe Kelly snuffed out a lot of their attacks and set up a lot of ours.

Credit goes to all the players and the subs who worked together to get the result. This was the third meeting of these sides this year. GCS had drawn and lost the previous two but not this one. They march on to the Connacht Final. We wish a speedy recovery to Patrick Fitzmaurice and hope the team do the business in the final.

P. Fitzmaurice, A. King, O. Geraghty, P. Coneran, G. Smith, C. Carton, J. Kelly, C. Raftery (2-6), L. Divilly (0-1), N. Burke, B. McDermott (1-3), E. Feeney, A. Divilly, R. Duffy (1-3), D. Coyne. Subs: R. McDermott, J. Fahy

Glenamaddy CS Vs Dunmore CS

Our 1st year boys kick-started their first year boys division C league on Friday the 10th of October with a comprehensive victory over Dunmore Community School. The match was played in good spirits with both teams giving their all. Glenamaddy C.S got off to the best possible start with 1-1 inside the opening minute from our midfielders Brian McDermott and Conor Raftery. That quickly settled the team and within a few minutes we had found our rhythm and tagged on a few more scores courtesy of Gerard smith, Ryan Duffy Brian McDermott and Conor Raftery. With McDermott and Raftery dominant in midfield and our half back line pushing forward at every available moment Dunmore struggled to get a foothold in the game and it took almost twenty minutes before they registered their first points. Just after half time Glenamaddy got a few quick-fire goals and the game was then over as a contest with us holding a lead of 7-9 to 5 points. The last twenty minutes Glenamaddy tagged on a few more score and eventually we ran out commanding winners on a score line of 13-14 to 5 points. The score line was a harsh and unfair reflection on Dunmore Community School who worked hard for the duration of the match match and never dropped their heads.  Patrick Fitzmaurice had a fine game in Goal, he dealt superbly with any goal efforts Dunmore had. Glenamaddy had the security of Odhran Geraghty at full back who read and snuffed out many of Dunmore’s attacks. He was duly supported by Adrian Divilly and Anthony King either side. Daniel Coyne held the centre back position and started off many of our excellent moves by delivering high quality ball into the forward line. Cian Carton and Luke Divilly had excellent games also, pushing forward and attacking at every possible moment. Brian McDermott and Conor Raftery dominated the midfield and their tireless work and skill were the foundations on which many of our scores came from. In the half forward line, Joe Kelly, Niall Burke and Rory McDermott worked superbly together. In the full forward line Ryan Duffy and Gerard Smyth were clinical finishers with their defenders having no response to their skill, pace and finishing. Alex Higgins, James Flynn, Jack Fahy all came of the bench in the second half and made some telling contributions. With round 1 of the league now over the boys will be looking forward to round 2 and will hoping to prove this performance was not a flash in the pan. Training continues as normal after school Wednesday.
