Course Outline
Physics is the study of how things work in the world around us.
The topics covered are as follows;
- Light
- Motion
- Heat
- Electricity
- Modern Physics - Nuclear Physics
- Sound
Practical or Project Work
Students are required to have an experiment copy made up of twenty-four experiments that can be examined in the Leaving Certificate Exam.
Assessment
100% of the marks go for the final examination in June of Leaving Certificate.
The paper has two sections as follows;
Section A - Experiment questions - you must answer three out of the four given.
Section B - Here you must answer five questions.

There are 22 mandatory practicals over the two year course.
Assessment
The exam is marked out of 400 marks and has three sections A, B and C.
Section A
This contains 6 questions, 5 of which should be answered. Answers must be written into the spaces provided on the examination paper. Section A is worth 100 marks (25% of the paper)
Section B
This is based on the mandatory activities on the syllabus. It contains 3 questions, 2 of which should be answered into the spaces provided on the examination paper. Section B is worth 60 marks (15% of the total)
Section C
This contains 6 questions, 4 of which should be answered, into a separate answer book. Section C is worth 240 marks (60% of the total)

Course Outline
French is the most popular foreign language offered in Irish schools.There are four main components in the syllabus:
Speaking
Reading
Writing
Listening
Project Work
At present there is no project work as part of the French course.
Assessment
Students are assessed at Leaving Cert level with a combination of listening comprehension, reading comprehension, written expression and also an oral examination.
Students have the option of taking the Ordinary Level or Higher Level paper at Leaving Cert Level.
In order to gain access to the National Universities of Ireland it is imperative that students have at least one foreign language.
