            26th August 2020

Dear Students and Parents,

I hope your family are keeping safe and well.

Stay Safe and Well.

Guided by advice of the Department of Education and Skills, we are preparing to reopen school and are putting in place measures and practices to keep us all as safe as possible. Please keep yourself informed of the latest DES advice via www.gov.ie.

In order to keep our community safe, it is a vital that everybody here follows our Health and Safety Directions and adheres to our Code of Good Behaviour. Parents will be contacted if their son or daughter breaches our safety regulations.

Students are welcome to attend school if they are healthy and well. It is important students do not attend school if they are feeling unwell. Parents are asked to make an appointment through the office or email their child’s Yearhead if they wish to discuss a school matter. Please ensure we have your contact numbers in the case of an emergency.

Health and Safety

On return each Year group will be receive Health and Safety Induction Training to include the flowing:

-       Wear a Mask - All students and staff are to wear a face mask in school, preferably a washable cloth one, where social distancing is not possible. We will provide everyone with a visor which may be worn in certain instances as directed by their teacher.

-       Wash your Hands & Sanitise - Students are to follow good hygiene etiquette, wash and/or sanitise their hands regularly. Each student will receive their own bottle of hand sanitiser to start with which may be refilled at home or here for 50c.

-       Bring Your Lunch - Students are advised to bring their own healthy lunch and reusable water bottle. Lunchtimes will be staggered. The Canteen will be open to students and it is hoped a cashless payment system can be introduced.

-       Lockers – Lockers will be spaced and students who wish to avail of one may do so at a key cost of €5.

-       Routines – In order for the school to run safely we are introducing the following interim routines

-       We will operate one-hour classes. School starts at 9am, finishes at 3.50pm and 1.15pm on Fridays.

-       We will operate a one-way system wherever practical and a controlled system for entering toilet areas.

-       Students may enter/exit through any entrance/door abiding by the one-way system.

School Policies & Code of Good Behaviour

Each year the Board of Management approves the policies which govern the school. The policies of the school include the Code of Good Behaviour, Anti Bullying Policy, Homework Policy, Admissions Policy etc. are available on www.glenamaddycs.ie. We ask parents to read the Code of Good Behaviour with their children. For our code to work, the support & cooperation of parents, staff & students is vital. It is a condition of entry to Glenamaddy Community School that all parties sign the Acceptance of the Code of Good Behaviour printed in the School Journal.

School Uniform

Our students wear the school uniform well. Students may wear any brand of black leather shoes. Runners are not allowed. On the day a student has PE/games they may wear their sports gear to school. We ask for your support in ensuring compliance with our school uniform.

Book Rental Scheme

We continue to operate the book rental scheme at an annual fee for each year of €130. Payment may be made online. Books cannot be issued without payment. Separately, workbooks & materials for practical subjects may be purchased from the relevant teacher.

School Attendance - Absence Notes

Students are expected to attend school every day if they are well. As a general rule, there are no free days or half days. If there is no school due to an emergency, we will text you. Please call if you ever have any doubt. The absence & lateness slips in the School Journal may be required by the National Education Welfare Board. Students must have a note from their parents/guardian or signed permission from their Yearhead. Phone calls between students & parents during the school day should be through the office & not by mobile phone.

This is an event that has been organised for the parents of 6th class children and it will give you some useful information on how to support your child over the summer and assist them in getting ready for their school transition. Niamh and Gina will be covering a lot of the frequently asked questions that parents often ask.
